What is included

  • A free on-site consultation and measurements
  • Protection of floors and nearby surfaces
  • Normal surface preparation and a tinted primer
  • The base coat, two to three finish coats and burnishing
  • A protective wax or sealer where the wall needs it
  • A custom sample once your estimate is approved
  • Cleanup and care notes for your finish

What moves the price

Two walls of the same size can be priced differently. The main reasons:

  • The wall underneath. Cracks, old texture or uneven drywall need more preparation. Polished plaster needs the flattest wall of all.
  • Height and access. Stair halls and walls above 10 ft take longer and may need scaffolding.
  • Shape. Range hoods, arches, niches and curved walls take more hand work than a flat wall.
  • Sheen. Each step from matte toward high polish adds coats and burnishing.
  • Color. Deep or custom colors and metallic effects can change materials and coats.

Why there is a project minimum

Every Venetian plaster project needs a visit, a protected room, preparation and several days of layers that have to set between coats. That fixed effort does not shrink with the area, which is why small pieces are priced at the $1,800 minimum rather than by the square foot.

Questions

Does a small area cost less per square foot?

Usually the opposite. A visit, protection, preparation and several days of layered work are needed whatever the size, so small pieces such as a niche or a short wall are priced at the $1,800 project minimum.

Do Marmorino and polished Venetian plaster cost the same?

They share one typical range, $16–22 per sq ft. Where your project lands inside it depends on the wall underneath, ceiling height, access and how far the surface is burnished. Travertino starts a little higher, at $18–24, because the banded pattern takes more passes by hand.

Is Venetian plaster more expensive than paint?

Yes, many times over. Paint is one or two rolled coats; Venetian plaster is a layered, hand-applied system built over several days. What you pay for is the depth and movement that paint cannot give.
